GameLynx is a personal project with no servers of its own. There is no GameLynx account, no sign-up and no back end: the app runs on your device, talks to the services you have connected, and stores what it learns on that same device. The developer receives nothing — no library, no playtime, no addresses, no crash reports, no analytics.
Credentials are sealed with the operating system's own key store where there is one — Keychain on macOS, DPAPI on Windows. On Linux they are stored as they are, and the app says so: a Steam Deck has a keyring in its desktop session and none in Game Mode, so a value sealed at the desk could not be opened in front of the television. Anything running as your user account can read that file. That is the honest trade, stated rather than hidden behind the word "encrypted".
Optional, and off until you turn it on. GameLynx asks Google for one permission —
drive.file, which grants access to files this app creates and to nothing else
in your Drive. It writes one file per device, about a megabyte, and keeps the last 24.
They are your files in your Drive; the developer cannot see them and has no way to reach
them.
You can stop it at any time: Settings → Backup to Google Drive → Disconnect, delete the GameLynx Backups folder in your Drive, and remove the app's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Requests go out from your device, so those services see your IP address and whatever the request itself contains — a game id, a search term, your Steam id where the service needs it. They are governed by their own policies, not this one.
No analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no profiles, and no selling of anything to anybody. Nothing about your library, your hours or your accounts is sent to the developer, deliberately: there is nowhere for it to go.
The website is a separate thing from the app, and it does use Google Analytics: which pages are read, how long for, roughly where in the world a visit came from, what referred it, and which of the four builds gets downloaded. That is ordinary website measurement, and it sets a cookie.
It only runs if you say yes. Nothing is loaded and no cookie is set until you press the button on the bar at the bottom of the page. Say no and nothing happens at all; the answer is remembered so you are asked once.
Advertising is switched off: no ad personalisation, no remarketing, no cross-device signals. There are no adverts here and nothing is sold to anybody. Google processes this on our behalf under its data processing terms, and the figures are read as totals rather than as anybody in particular.
Separately, and regardless of your answer, the server writes down that a file was handed out — the time, which file, and the address it went to with the last part removed. That is a server recording its own work rather than anything about you, it is what keeps the bandwidth bill honest, and it is not shared with anybody.
Changed your mind? Clearing this site’s data in your browser makes the question come back.
Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on that device. Your Drive backups stay until you delete them. Signing out of Steam or PlayStation inside the app removes those credentials from the device.
GameLynx is a tool for looking at your own game library and is not aimed at children. It collects nothing about anybody, of any age.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the previous versions stay readable in the project's public history.
